SUICIDAL TENDENCIES: MUIR Reports From Kentucky's FEST FIVE

SUICIDAL TENDENCIES frontman Mike Muir has posted the following report from the band's appearance at last weekend's 105.1 WLRS' Fest Five event on the Great Lawn in Louisville, Kentucky:

"Lori, the bands booking agent called Wednesday, saying she just got a call asking if we were available and willing to fly out a play a radio show in Kentucky on Sunday. I got on the phone and the email and we tracked everyone down (band and crew) and all said they could or would change their schedule, 'Let's do it'.

"All we knew was the station was in Louisville and they said the other bands were TRAPT, SPONGE and Art formerly of EVERCLEAR. I had talked to a DJ that was real cool from Louisville a few years back and assumed he probably had something to do with it, but didn't know...Just knew that we don't get offered to do many shows like this (especially at the last moment) and it would be fun.

"We had some mix ups with the flight info, but by 4 in the morning Saturday [September 27], everyone knew what time we were leaving...6:50 A.M.

"We first flew to Houston, switched planes and terminals and then flew to Lexington on a 37 passenger plane. When we landed at the airport at 4:30 P.M., Leonard (good people) was there to pick us up and drive us on to Louisville. Everyone was pretty tired, and some tried to sleep off the screaming babies that were sitted by us on the Lexington flight.

"We got to the hotel and didn't need to be up to check on the gear till 1 on Sunday [September 28] so that was cool. We walked around, got some food, etc.

"At the gig, Shawn (soundman),Cruz (tech/merch/jack of all trades) and Hale (drum tech) checked out the rented music gear and set up merch.

"In the afternoon the black clouds came over and brought some freezing wind, rain, and someone even said some hail.

"The Waterfront is right on the Kentucky side of the Ohio river. We went on last at about 9:30 at night. It was cold, and no backstage rooms so we waited to go over.

"We meet a bunch of people when we got there and the DJ that I talked to before, he was there and introduced me to a few of the station people. They were all really cool.

"The show was fun. The cold weather was hard on the guys hands when they tried to play, but as Dean said, it was a lot easier than when we played in the snow in Tahoe a couple years back, Lol.

"The only bummer was that someone from the venue said if we played another song he was gonna pull the power. He tried to say he gave us a two-song warning, but the person he told wasn't with the band.

"Anyhow the station people were cool about it, but apparently the venue had a curfew and the their guy needed to get home and go to sleep, lol.

"After the show we got to rap to a few more people. Everyone was really cool, and also surprised and happy that we came on such short notice.

"We said our goodbyes, even the cops said they had a good time and were glad they finally got to see us. I thought they were joking, but they went up to everyone in the band individually and talked for awhile.

"We got back to the hotel and had to be in the lobby at 3:30 A.M. to drive back to Lexington. Once again Leonard was there to drive us to the airport. After a quick impromptu wrestling match between Clark and Hale, Dean had to bribe the security guard with a t shirt to stop the receptionists from calling the police, and then we were back on our way back home, the same way we came, Louisville to Lexington to Houston to L.A.
